Check the date. Minimum wages change, in many countries every year. The figure above is the one in force at the date shown. Confirm the current amount with the official source below before you rely on it. This is general information, not legal or employment advice.

Who sets it

The Government sets the regional minimum wages by decree, after advice from the National Wage Council, which has representatives of Government, employers and the trade union.

How it changes

The Government has raised the rates by new decree, usually at the start of a year.

Who is covered, and who is treated differently

  • Each commune, ward or area is placed in one of four regions by a list attached to the decree.
  • Rates are stated per month and per hour.

What to watch for

  • The figure shown is for Region I, the highest. Find the region for the place where the work is done.

Understand the legal system first

Vietnam belongs to the Civil law family. How pay is regulated depends on how the legal system makes and applies labour law.
