Minimum wage in Colombia
Colombia has a national monthly minimum wage, set each year by negotiation or, failing agreement, by presidential decree. A transport allowance is added for lower earners.

Who sets it
The Permanent Commission for Wage and Labour Policy, of Government, employers and workers, tries to agree. If it does not, the Government fixes the minimum wage by decree.
How it changes
It is set once a year and normally takes effect on 1 January. For workers who earn up to two minimum wages, a separate transport allowance is paid on top.
Who is covered, and who is treated differently
- The transport allowance is not part of the minimum wage but is counted in some contributions and benefits.
What to watch for
- In 2026 the amount set by decree was challenged in the courts. Check the current decree and any court ruling before using a figure.
Understand the legal system first
Colombia belongs to the Civil law family. How pay is regulated depends on how the legal system makes and applies labour law.
