Minimum wage in Mexico
Mexico has a national minimum wage set each year by a tripartite commission, quoted per day. There are two rates: a general rate for most of the country and a higher rate for the northern border free zone.
Headline figure (from 1 January 2026)
315.04 MXN per day
The general rate. The northern border free zone has a higher rate (440.87 MXN per day).
Roughly US$377 a month for a full-time worker, at exchange rates of 2026-10-09. This is a rough comparison only and does not show buying power.

Who sets it
The National Minimum Wage Commission (CONASAMI), with representatives of workers, employers and the Government, sets the minimum wages.
How it changes
It is reviewed once a year and normally takes effect on 1 January. There are also higher minimums for a list of professions and trades.
Who is covered, and who is treated differently
- A higher rate applies in the northern border free zone along the border with the United States.
- There is a separate schedule of professional minimum wages for certain occupations.
What to watch for
- The monthly amount depends on how many days are paid, so the daily rate is the legal figure.
Understand the legal system first
Mexico belongs to the Civil law family. How pay is regulated depends on how the legal system makes and applies labour law.
