Minimum wage in Argentina

A statutory national minimum wage

Argentina has a national minimum wage, the Salario Mínimo, Vital y Móvil, set by a national council or, if the council cannot agree, by the Government. In recent years it has been raised in many small steps.

No figure is shown here, because the amount is adjusted in frequent steps. Use the official source for the amount in force today.

Check the date. Minimum wages change, in many countries every year. The figure above is the one in force at the date shown. Confirm the current amount with the official source below before you rely on it. This is general information, not legal or employment advice.

Who sets it

The National Council for Employment, Productivity and the Minimum, Vital and Adjustable Wage, with representatives of employers, workers and the State, sets it. If it does not agree, the Government can fix the amounts itself.

How it changes

The amount has changed often, sometimes month by month under a schedule fixed in advance. A figure from a few months ago may be out of date.

Who is covered, and who is treated differently

  • It applies to workers under the Employment Contract Law, to agricultural workers and to the national public administration.
  • Amounts are for a full working day and are paid in proportion for part-time work.

What to watch for

  • Check the latest resolution published in the Official Bulletin; it can set several future steps at once.

Understand the legal system first

Argentina belongs to the Civil law family. How pay is regulated depends on how the legal system makes and applies labour law.
