A statutory national minimum wage

Headline figure (since 2025)

1,700 MYR per month

In force from 1 February 2025 and for all employers from 1 August 2025.

Roughly US$416 a month for a full-time worker, at exchange rates of 2026-10-09. This is a rough comparison only and does not show buying power.

Check the date. Minimum wages change, in many countries every year. The figure above is the one in force at the date shown. Confirm the current amount with the official source below before you rely on it. This is general information, not legal or employment advice.

Who sets it

The National Wages Consultative Council advises, and the Minister makes the Minimum Wages Order. The law requires a review at least once every two years.

How it changes

An order sets the new rate and a date, and smaller employers have been given extra time to comply.

Who is covered, and who is treated differently

  • It covers all employers regardless of size, including for non-citizen employees.
  • Domestic workers are not covered by the order.

What to watch for

  • The Government has discussed a further increase. Check the current order.

Understand the legal system first

Malaysia belongs to the Religious (Islamic) law is a leading source family. How pay is regulated depends on how the legal system makes and applies labour law.
