Minimum wage in Nepal
Nepal has a national minimum remuneration for workers, set by the Government on the recommendation of a committee of Government, unions and employers, and reviewed about every two years.

Who sets it
Under the Labour Act 2017, a committee with representatives of the Government, trade unions and employers recommends the minimum remuneration. The Ministry of Labour then publishes it, and can fix it itself if the committee cannot agree.
How it changes
It is reviewed at regular intervals, about every two years. The amount is a basic salary plus a dearness allowance, and the notice also gives daily and hourly rates.
Who is covered, and who is treated differently
- Workers on tea estates have their pay set separately, through a different process.
What to watch for
- Check the current notice on the Ministry of Labour site.
Understand the legal system first
Nepal belongs to the Common law family. How pay is regulated depends on how the legal system makes and applies labour law.
