Who sets it
A law passed by Congress sets the amount, after a proposal from the Government, usually following talks with the unions and employers.
How it changes
It is raised by law, usually once or twice a year. A recent law provides for indexation to inflation from the start of 2027.
Who is covered, and who is treated differently
- Workers aged 18 to 65 receive the standard amount; workers under 18 and over 65 have a lower amount.
- A separate lower amount is used for some purposes that are not wages.
What to watch for
- The figure shown is for workers aged 18 to 65 working full time.
Understand the legal system first
Chile belongs to the Civil law family. How pay is regulated depends on how the legal system makes and applies labour law.
