Bulgaria has a statutory national minimum monthly wage, set by the Council of Ministers. It is now stated in euro, since Bulgaria adopted the euro in 2026.

Who sets it
The Council of Ministers sets the minimum monthly wage by decree, after consulting the unions and employers' organisations in the tripartite council.
How it changes
It is usually set each year and takes effect on 1 January. A formula in the Labour Code ties it to the average wage and is meant to guide the annual decision.
Who is covered, and who is treated differently
- It applies to all employees working full time under the Labour Code.
- Collective agreements for sectors can set higher minimums.
What to watch for
- The monthly figure is gross, before the employee's social-security contributions and income tax.
Understand the legal system first
Bulgaria belongs to the Civil law family. How pay is regulated depends on how the legal system makes and applies labour law.
