Who sets it
The Government sets it by royal decree each year after consulting the main unions and employers' organisations and a committee of experts.
How it changes
It is reviewed annually. The law states it per day and per month, in fourteen payments counting the two extra payments.
Who is covered, and who is treated differently
- It applies to all employees, with the same national rate for all regions.
- Domestic workers and temporary workers have their own rate rules.
What to watch for
- The figure shown spreads the extra payments over twelve months so that it compares with other countries.
Understand the legal system first
Spain belongs to the Civil law family. How pay is regulated depends on how the legal system makes and applies labour law.
