Enrolment as an advocate with a foreign degree
For: Law graduates of foreign universities.
- Check that your university is recognised by the Pakistan Bar Council and the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Holders of a GDL or an LL.M. can ask the Bar Council for an equivalence certificate to the LL.B.
- Pass the Special Equivalence Examination in law, set by the HEC, which tests core areas of Pakistani law such as the Constitution, evidence and civil procedure.
- Pass the Law Graduate Assessment Test (LAW-GAT), which is required to apply to the Bar Council for enrolment.
- Apply to the provincial bar council to be enrolled as an advocate. The governing law is the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act 1973.
Dates, fees and the number of attempts allowed change, so confirm with the HEC and the Bar Council. We could not confirm whether citizenship is a condition of enrolment.
