The Law To Know

Module 7

Property, trusts and family: land, the family home, trusts, wills, divorce and children

The lawyer’s work for individuals and families often comes down to three questions: who owns this, what happens when someone dies, and what happens when a relationship ends. The law of England and Wales answers them through land law, trusts and succession, and family law. They are large subjects and this module is deliberately a first map rather than a full course. It gives the structure that makes each area readable: the difference between legal and equitable ownership, the way a trust splits ownership from enjoyment, the formalities of a will, and the principles that guide a court on divorce and the care of children.

Module 1 of this course is free, and this is not it. Unlock the whole course below, or go back to the course page.
