Spain

A civil-law country with a parliamentary monarchy, seventeen Autonomous Communities, regional civil laws and tax systems of its own, a Constitutional Court and a European legal order above it all. Who This Page Is For

This portal collects material on Spanish law, a civil-law system with a strong tradition of regional autonomy: several Autonomous Communities have their own civil law, and the Basque Country and Navarre have their own tax systems. It is written for readers who visit, live, work, study, buy property or do business in Spain or who want to understand its legal system, and it explains laws, institutions and procedures without giving legal advice or opinions on individual cases. Spain is also bound by European Union law. Everywhere else on this site, content reflects US law unless a page says otherwise.
