Matter Board

A matter is a few stages, a list of things to do, some dates that must not be missed and a pile of documents. Put them on one board, see what is overdue at a glance, and keep it all on your own device.

How to use it

  1. Step 1

    Start from a template

Choose a dispute, a deal, a family or estate matter, a general matter or a blank board. Each comes with stages and prompts to think about.

  2. Step 2

    Fill in your own dates

Add cards for tasks, hard dates and documents. Type each date yourself from the rule that applies; the board never works one out for you.

  3. Step 3

    Move work along

Move cards between stages, tick them off and watch the overdue and due-this-week counts. Export a copy now and then.

What it is good for

A solo practice or a small team

A light way to see every step of a matter without buying a case-management system.

Students and clinics

A board makes the shape of a matter concrete: what comes first, what waits on others and what has a date.

Your own legal paperwork

A tenancy, a contract or an estate is easier to follow with a list of stages, documents and dates in front of you.

Questions

Where is my board stored?

Only in this browser, on this device. Nothing is sent to us. If you clear your browser data or use another device, the board is gone, so use the export button to keep a copy.

Does it calculate deadlines?

No, on purpose. Time limits depend on the law that applies and on the facts. You enter each date from the rule and the documents, and should have it checked.

What should I put on it?

Labels, stages, tasks and dates, not names or privileged details. A shared or public computer is not private.

What does the free version include?

One board with everything on it. All-Access keeps several boards and lets you print.

Is it legal advice?

No. It is an organising aid. The starter lists are prompts to think about, not statements of what any court or country requires.

More builders

The Matter Board is an organising aid. It stores what you type in your own browser, does not know any law and does not calculate any deadline. Starter lists are general prompts, not statements of what any court, regulator or country requires. A missed date can have serious consequences: always take dates from the rules that apply to you.
