The Law To Know

Module 6

Reading the law and checking an AI answer: how to read a statute, how to read a citation, and ten questions that test any answer, from a person or from an AI, before you rely on it

This is the module that ties the map together. You now know where rules come from, who decides, the road a dispute travels, the clocks and how proof works. What remains is the skill of reading a rule and testing an answer. An answer may come from a friend, a website, a lawyer, a forum or an AI system; all of them can be right and all of them can be wrong. An AI answer deserves special care because it is fluent, confident and quick, and those qualities hide errors that look exactly like facts: a case that does not exist, a rule from the wrong state, a law that has since changed. Reading the law yourself, even a little, lets you check the answer against the source. This module is general education for the United States and not legal advice.

General education about the legal system of the United States, using invented people and places. It states principles in simplified form and is not legal advice. The law differs by state and changes, and every case turns on its facts. If your matter is urgent, involves a large sum, your children, your home, your immigration status or your liberty, speak to a lawyer.
