Module 6
Business, consumer, competition and employment law: merchants, companies, insolvency, consumers, competition, intellectual property and the Labour Code
French business law is spread over several codes: the Commercial Code, the Consumer Code, the Intellectual Property Code and the Labour Code, with a strong layer of European Union law above them. A common thread is that French law often protects the weaker party (the consumer, the employee, the small supplier) with **rules of public policy** that the parties cannot remove by contract. This module covers the business from its creation to its possible failure, then its dealings with consumers, competitors, authors and inventors, and its employees.
This course explains the law of France, not US law. Rules that look the same elsewhere may be different.
