Western Sahara is a territory whose final status is unresolved. Morocco administers most of it and applies Moroccan law there. The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, proclaimed by the Polisario Front, controls a smaller part and has its own constitution. The United Nations lists it as a non-self-governing territory.

How this country is classified

This territory is not classified. A disputed territory. No single legal system is agreed, so it is shown as unclassified.

The map colours a country by the first-named system, and shows both civil-law and common-law countries as “mixed”. It is a simplification, and real systems are rarely pure.
