How to use it
- When: something in the rented home is broken or unsafe (heating, water, damp, locks, wiring, a leak, pests) and you want the landlord to repair it, and to have a written record that you asked.
- Urgent danger (gas smell, no heating in winter, flooding, exposed wiring): phone the landlord and, if needed, the emergency services at once, then send this letter as a record.
- Fill in everything in [square brackets] and delete the options you do not use. Describe each problem exactly: where it is, since when, and what effect it has.
- Send it by a method you can prove: e-mail with read receipt, registered post or courier. Keep a copy and the proof.
- Attach proof: dated photos or videos, earlier messages, and any report from a professional.
- Not for: damage that you or your guests caused (you may have to pay for that), or a dispute about rent or ending the lease.
