How to use it
- When: one person lends money to another and wants a short, clear document in which the borrower promises to repay it. It is simpler than a full loan agreement.
- Who signs: the borrower, who makes the promise. The lender keeps the original, and the borrower keeps a copy.
- Fill in everything in [square brackets] and cross out options that do not apply. State the amount in numbers and in words.
- Hand over the money properly: pay by bank transfer where you can, or give a signed receipt. Write down the date.
- Record each repayment: note every payment on the note or on a separate sheet, signed by the lender.
- Tip: when the borrower repays in full, the lender should sign and return the original marked "paid".
