How to use it
- When: two or more people start or run a business together and want to agree in writing on contributions, profit and loss, decisions, leaving and ending, before problems arise.
- Fill in everything in [square brackets] and delete the options you do not use. This template has two partners; add more as needed and adjust the shares.
- Be honest and specific about money, time and work each partner puts in. Most partnership conflicts come from unspoken expectations.
- Form: write it down and have all partners sign, one copy for each. In some countries a partnership must be registered or the agreement notarised.
- Not for: a company with shareholders and directors (use the company's founding documents and a shareholders' agreement), a one-off project (use a collaboration agreement) or an employment relationship.

What these templates are not
- They are self-help templates, not legal advice, and they do not replace a lawyer.
- Laws differ from country to country, and some rules cannot be changed by contract. Each template ends with a checklist of what to check where you live.
- For a high-value or unusual situation, ask a local lawyer or notary to look at the final text.
