How to use it

  • When: you cannot attend to one specific matter yourself, for example because you live abroad or are ill, and you want someone you trust to deal with it for you: collect a certificate or parcel, handle a bank or tax office matter, sign a rental or service contract, or represent you in an administrative procedure.
  • Who signs: the person giving the power (the principal). The agent usually also signs to accept.
  • Fill in everything in [square brackets] and cross out options that do not apply. Describe the task as exactly as you can. The narrower the power, the safer you are, and the more likely an office will accept it.
  • Choose the agent with care. Even a narrow power lets someone speak and sign for you.
  • Form matters: some matters, for example anything involving real estate or a company, need a notary or a special form. If you will use it abroad, ask about an apostille or consular legalisation and a translation.
  • Tip: write the end date, ask the office that will receive it whether it needs its own form, and keep the original safe.
