How to use it
- When: one person freely gives another a sum of money or an item (a car, jewellery, equipment, shares) and wants to record that it is a gift and not a loan or a sale.
- Who signs: the person giving (the donor) and the person receiving (the recipient). Each keeps a signed copy.
- Fill in everything in [square brackets] and cross out options that do not apply. Describe the gift exactly.
- Money: pay by bank transfer where you can, and write the reference "gift" on it. Keep the proof.
- Items: list identifying details (serial number, registration number, photographs), and record the day the item was handed over.
- Tip: for land, a house, a business or a very large amount, or when the donor has children or other close heirs, ask a lawyer first. A gift can affect taxes and inheritance.
