How to use it

  • When: you hire someone for occasional or short-term work and pay by the hour, the day or a set sum: a tutor, a handyman, a cleaner, a gardener, help at an event or a move, a short-term assistant. For a defined piece of work for a fee (design, writing, translation, software), the Freelance Services Agreement fits better.
  • Who signs: the person who hires (the client) and the person who does the work (the worker).
  • Fill in everything in [square brackets] and strike out the options that do not apply. Describe the work, the days and the pay exactly.
  • Keep it truly occasional. The more regular, supervised and fixed the work, the more likely the law treats it as employment. If you need someone every week for months, ask a local adviser about a proper employment contract.
  • Safety and money matter: decide who pays for accidents, tools and travel, and who is responsible for the worker's own taxes and contributions. Some countries have special rules for home help, care of children or the elderly, and work by minors or foreigners.
  • Tip: pay as agreed and keep a signed receipt each time. Each person keeps a signed copy.
