Module 7
Professional duties and good practice: when not to use AI, telling clients and courts, documenting use and a firm policy
Tools change every year. The duties of a lawyer do not. A professional who uses an AI writing tool remains bound by the same obligations as before: to be competent, to keep confidences, to supervise others, to be honest with clients and with courts, and to charge fairly. This module sets out those duties in **general terms**. It does not quote any rule, because rules differ between countries and regulators, and because guidance on AI is being written and revised. Instead it teaches you where to find the rules that bind you, how to apply them to a prompt in front of you, when to decide not to use a tool at all, and how to record and explain your use of one: in a short note on a file, in a conversation with a client and in a policy for a firm.
