Module 5
Checking the output: invented authorities, wrong jurisdictions, flattering answers and a verification routine
Checking is the larger half of prompt engineering for lawyers, and the half that protects you. A well-built prompt makes a good answer more likely. It cannot make one certain. Tools write fluent text that may contain a case that does not exist, a rule from another country, a quotation that was never said or a calculation that does not add up, and the errors look exactly like the correct parts. This module names the common failures, explains why leading prompts bring flattering answers and bias, and gives you a routine for checking authorities, facts and figures that you can run every time. The Answer Checker tool lists what in a pasted answer needs checking, which is the start of the routine and never the end.
