Capstone

Capstone: repair a faulty poster printing agreement, from the client’s instructions to a checked final text

Marlow Print Studio Ltd has agreed to print posters for Teasel & Co, a small events company that is putting on a spring festival. A junior colleague has written a first draft of the agreement in an afternoon, and it has gone to you for review before it goes to the customer. You also have the instructions the Studio gave. The draft is faulty on purpose: vague times, ‘and/or’, passive duties, wrong modal words, a defined term used in three forms, an undefined term, a modifier that may attach to the wrong items, a pronoun that points two ways and a string of negatives. This capstone takes you through the whole method: sort the faults, test them with the three tools, rebuild the key clauses from the instructions, review as the customer would and check the result.
