Capstone: Marta Lindqvist and the Shenzhen homeware studio
Marta Lindqvist is an invented Swedish designer who has moved to Shenzhen to run **Nordlys Home**, which designs homeware and sells it to Chinese online retailers and, increasingly, to customers in Europe. She began with a **representative office** and a small team. In one year, several things happen. Her Swedish colleague **Tomas** arrives on a **business visa** to help for three months and is paid by the studio. The **representative office** has been **signing sales contracts** with retailers. A **supplier**, Zhongshan Lighting Co., delivers **defective lamps** under a contract whose arbitration clause says only ‘**arbitration in Shenzhen**’. A **distributor** has **registered the brand name** as a Chinese trade mark. An employee, **Chen Yu**, is **dismissed without notice** after three years. And the shop **collects personal data** of Chinese customers and **sends it to servers in Stockholm**. You advise Marta using the course and its three tools. Assume that everything is in **Mainland China**, that Marta is the studio’s **legal representative** and that the facts are as stated.
This course explains the law of China, not US law. Rules that look the same elsewhere may be different. This covers Mainland China. Hong Kong and Macao have separate legal systems, and Taiwan is outside this collection.
