Capstone: Tom Verhoeven and the Plovdiv software studio

Tom Verhoeven is an invented Dutch entrepreneur who has moved to Plovdiv to open Verhoeven Software, a small software studio. In one year, several things happen. As a Dutch citizen he has the right to live and work in Bulgaria, but he has done nothing to register. He needs the right company form, and plans to sell through a local distributor. He pays a deposit on a flat under a private paper, and the seller says the notary can follow later. He hires Elena, and then dismisses her without a legal ground. And he marries Desislava Petrova, a Bulgarian citizen, with no marriage contract and no wills. He also holds a judgment of a Dutch court against a former client. You advise Tom using the course and its three tools. Assume that everything is in Plovdiv, that Tom is a Dutch citizen, that Desislava is a Bulgarian citizen and that the facts are as stated.

This course was written on 6 November 2026. To the best of our knowledge, it describes the law of Bulgaria as it stood on that date. Laws change, and we may have missed or misunderstood something. If you notice a change, or have other information, please do not hesitate to contact us: we will review it and update the course. We do not claim to be the final source of the law.
