Capstone: Anna Berg and the Florianópolis coworking house

Anna Berg is an invented Norwegian entrepreneur who has moved to Florianópolis, in southern Brazil, to open Casa Ilha, a coworking house with a café. In one year, several things happen. She arrived on a visitor’s visa and has been running the house for pay. She needs the right company form, and plans to sell memberships through a local representative. She buys an apartment under a private contract from a seller who has not registered his own title. She hires Carla without registering her work card and then dismisses her with no pay. And she lives with Rafael Souza, a Brazilian citizen, in a stable union, and they have no wills. You advise Anna using the course and its three tools. Assume that everything is in Santa Catarina, that Anna is a Norwegian citizen, that Rafael is a Brazilian citizen and that the facts are as stated.

Consult a Brazilian lawyer for any real matter.

This course was written on 6 November 2026. To the best of our knowledge, it describes the law of Brazil as it stood on that date. Laws change, and we may have missed or misunderstood something. If you notice a change, or have other information, please do not hesitate to contact us: we will review it and update the course. We do not claim to be the final source of the law.
